Microsoft have announced the name change from Azure AD to Entra ID.

The change is designed to make it easier for users to navigate the unified and expanded Microsoft Entra portfolio.

Why is the name changing?

Microsoft Entra was rolled out a year ago as a new product family for all identity and access products. The Microsoft Entra product family started with Azure AD, Microsoft Entra Permissions Management and Microsoft Entra Verified ID. This has continued to grow with more products being added and whilst customers have embraced Entra products they were still relying on Azure AD. By unifying all of their identity and access capabilities under Microsoft Entra, it makes it easier for users to navigate and use all products in this expanded portfolio.

There will not be any changes to Azure AD capabilities, login URLs, PowerShell cmdlets, Microsoft authentication library (MSAL), developer experiences, or tooling. All licensing plans and pricing for Azure AD and Microsoft 365 plans that include Azure AD remain the same, with only the display names for the licensing plans changing.
