VP Global MSP and Distribution

As MSPs face an increasingly complex threat-landscape, the pressure to deliver stronger security without adding operational overhead has never been greater. From AI-driven attacks to identity-based breaches, today’s environment demands solutions that are both powerful and easy to manage.

In this edition of MSP Minute, Climb sat down with Brian Kane, VP of Global MSP and Distribution at ThreatDown, to discuss how MSPs can simplify security operations, improve efficiency, and scale their businesses without sacrificing protection.

Meet Brian Kane, VP Global MSP and Distribution

Brian is a 20-year IT and Cybersecurity veteran and multi-MSP founder who brings a rare owner’s perspective to his role as Global VP of MSP and Distribution at ThreatDown (powered by Malwarebytes). He specializes in transforming security from a cost center into a growth engine, helping partners scale their practices and protect clients against an increasingly volatile threat landscape

A recently named CRN Channel Chief and recognized industry voice, Brian is passionate about translating deep technical insights into actionable business results — and helping partners find the best in themselves.

Powerfully Simple Cyber Resilience for MSPs

ThreatDown, built from Malwarebytes, is focused on delivering what Brian describes as “powerfully simple cyber resilience.”

Rather than forcing MSPs to manage multiple tools and dashboards, the platform consolidates endpoint protection, EDR, and managed detection and response (MDR) into a single lightweight agent governed through its OneView multi-tenant console.

“We take elite, high-efficacy protection and deliver it through a single, purpose-built console that strips away operational complexity,” Kane explained.

With native integrations into major RMM and PSA tools and availability through distribution marketplaces like Climb, MSPs can deploy and manage security with minimal administrative effort.

Defending Against AI-Driven and Identity-Based Attacks

The cybersecurity landscape is shifting rapidly, with attackers leveraging automation and AI to scale their efforts. At the same time, identity-based attacks—where bad actors log in using stolen credentials—are becoming more common.

For MSPs, this introduces the risk of a “waterfall effect,” where one compromised environment can impact multiple downstream customers.

ThreatDown addresses this challenge by combining automated, AI-driven behavioral protection with continuous security posture assessments. This layered approach helps stop threats before they execute, reducing the likelihood of widespread impact across client environments.

Eliminating Complexity to Protect Margins

Operational efficiency remains one of the biggest drivers of MSP success. According to Kane, “the enemy of MSP profitability is console fatigue and agent bloat.”

ThreatDown’s OneView platform provides:

  • Centralized policy management
  • Cross-site visibility across all customers
  • Single-click remediation from a unified interface

By consolidating additional capabilities—such as DNS filtering, vulnerability assessments, and patch management—within the same agent, MSPs can expand their security offerings without increasing overhead or headcount.

Built-In Differentiation Through Advanced Protection

In a crowded security market, differentiation matters. ThreatDown stands out with proprietary technologies designed to go beyond traditional endpoint protection.

Its Linking Engine Remediation traces and removes the full infection chain, rather than simply quarantining files. Meanwhile, its 7-Day Ransomware Rollback allows technicians to restore systems to a pre-attack state using a protected local cache.

“These capabilities act as a literal undo button for cyber-attacks,” Kane noted, giving MSPs an added layer of confidence when responding to advanced threats.

Scaling Security Without Scaling Complexity

As MSPs grow, maintaining efficiency becomes critical. ThreatDown is designed to scale alongside partners by integrating directly into existing RMM and ticketing workflows, allowing new clients to be onboarded quickly.

Flexible product tiers also make it easy for MSPs to expand services—from core endpoint protection to fully managed MDR, without changing platforms.

This approach enables partners to move up-market and support compliance-driven industries while maintaining a consistent operational model.

Automation and MDR Driving Efficiency and Margin

Labor is one of the largest expenses for MSPs. ThreatDown helps offset this through automation and optional fully managed services.

Behavioral detection automatically isolates compromised endpoints, reducing response times and manual effort. For MSPs looking to go further, the MDR service provides 24/7 monitoring, threat hunting, and remediation from dedicated security experts.

This allows partners to transform what is typically a reactive cost center into a predictable, high-margin service offering.

From Commodity IT to Strategic Security Advisor

Today’s MSPs are increasingly expected to deliver business value—not just technical services. ThreatDown helps partners make that shift.

With tools like Security Advisor, MSPs can present clients with measurable security health scores and actionable improvement plans. This not only strengthens customer relationships but also helps organizations meet cyber insurance and compliance requirements.

As Kane emphasized, this positions MSPs as strategic advisors rather than commodity providers.

What’s Next for ThreatDown Partners

Looking ahead, ThreatDown continues to invest in both partner programs and product innovation.

Recent updates include the Nexus Partner Program, focused on deal protection and margin retention, as well as new capabilities such as Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR). These enhancements bring identity security for environments like Microsoft Entra ID and Active Directory directly into the platform, without requiring additional agents.

Combined with the new Ultimate MDR Plus offering, ThreatDown is expanding its ability to correlate endpoint and identity telemetry within a single, unified experience.
